4 simple ways to maintain calmness in times of adversity.

Every individual in this recent time of Coronavirus Pandemic is going through some kind of emotion like fear, anxiety, restlessness with all the sadness around. Still, we have to live with strength, vigour and enthusiasm for life through this gloominess. Otherwise, it may take a toll on both physical and mental health making us more susceptible to the virus.
To keep your immune system strong and functioning well, you need not just healthy food, exercise but also a strong and a calm mind to cope with.

Vedic studies are not just old ancient tasks of India to enlighten us with a wide range of knowledge of spirituality and general wellness but also to deal with times of adversity and despair. The knowledge is very vast and elaborate. To read and understand the entire Vedantas, Upanishads and Bhagawat Gita, you need a lifetime devotion and perseverance. You have to be a complete knowledge seeker. For people like you and me, it may not be an easy task. My little knowledge comes from reading and listening to spiritual talks and inquisitiveness to learn more of this ancient old wisdom.

In this post, I would like to mention 4 important points that people should remember and implement in their day to day lives especially in times of adversity like this one to at least improve and maintain a more calm compost state.

1.Firstly, according to the great Advaita Vedanta, 'I', myself is the ultimate supreme, the True Self. Whatever is happening around are all empirical or perceptual reality. Everything that is present or seems to be real is our experiences of this Universe. There is an underlying Awareness within us which we may not be aware of or ignorant enough to acknowledge it. So, when we start meditating or maintain a stillness, we become aware of this inner self, the True Self which remains unaffected with all these external emotions and experiences. So, it's time for us at least maintain stillness or meditate for a couple of minutes in the daytime to get in touch with the inner self, our True Nature. This may, much of our negative emotions can be removed in this time of darkness and adversity.

2. Gratitude: By being continuously grateful for all the Blessings around us, would give us a sense of safety and wellbeing. There are still hundreds of reasons around us for which we should be very grateful to The Almighty. We should remember them frequently especially in this time of adversity and be thankful to God for each one of them. This gives us a sense of love, gratitude, safety and also do good to our overall wellness.

3. According to the great Patanjali Yoga Shastra, It says that the best way to do something or any task is to focus on one task at a time. Divided attention or scattered attention on multiple things may do more harm than being useful. We need to focus and work on one thing at a time. This way the mind is so much under control and maybe the quality and productivity is high in whatever we do. And there is no room for negative thoughts and emotions.

4. Finally, we should spend more time in the service of others. If we have the opportunities to serve others, we should do with full affections and empathy. Okay, these days during Pandemic, we are more confined to our homes. In such time, we should give more attention and love to our loved ones. We should keep ourselves engage in more activities that everyone at home can participate, be in studies, creativity, entertainment or sports.

Thanks for reading.
Stay healthy, stay safe.
